About the event
Why: Not least because of the corona virus, data analysis, dashboards, diagrams and fancy charts are very much in trend today. This is a good example of how, just as we have learned to read and write, we also need to become data literate in order to deal with the most pressing contemporary social challenges. In addition, data visualisation is also a lot of fun!
What: Forget the boring bar charts and cheesy 3D pie charts. We are going to work together on the classic and less known types of data visualizations, such as bubble charts, small multiples plots, heatmaps, beeswarm charts and other fun visualizations.
For Who: Curious people with or without programming experience, who are interested in data, but never had a chance to try out data visualization themselves, or people who already have some experience analyzing data, but would like to know more and expand their datavis toolset.
How: The open data set of the city of Zurich will serve as the basis of our work. We will explore the open data portal together, download a dataset and search for interesting insights using visual analytics. We will use a free data visualization tool (there will be both a coding and a no-code version prepared, you as a participant may choose which version you would like to use.
